Founded in 1753 by Halifax Governor, Edward Cornwallis, Lunenburg is one of the most accurate surviving examples of a British Colonial Era town. The "Old Town" of Lunenburg is well known for its rich history in ship building and involvement in the fishing industry.
Arriving in Lunenburg, you will spend approximately 2:30 hours there.
You can participate in a walking tour of Lunenburg hosted by Anchor Tours. Lasting approximately an hour, you will explore the streets of Lunenburg, seeing and learning about the many historical landmarks in the town. You will feel as though you are stepping back in time as you see beautifully restored homes and civic buildings that are meticulously kept and maintained.
The walking tour is optional and at no extra charge.
Afterwards, take some time on your own and walk Lunenburg's working waterfront. See how the area's traditional ship building and fisheries industries have survived to this day. If in port, perhaps you will have an opportunity to see the pride of Lunenburg, the world famous Bluenose II schooner. It was a great tour with Jeff. The tour is really private, in a small group. Jeff knows a lot about Halifax and Nova Scotia in total and provides uncommon knowledge about the area. After the tour you will be an expert in Nova Scotian history! Absolutely recommendable.
